    The Sphinxes of India
    By Raja Deekshitar
    May 13, 2005

I would like to recount to you, dear reader, how the purushamriga was brought to earth. The purushamriga is a rishi, a sage with the body of a lion and a human face. This composite mythological being was called a sphinx in ancient Greece and Egypt.

Five kings, brothers, known as the Pancha Pandavas, ruled Indraprastha. For the prosperity of their kingdom they wished to perform the Rajasuya Yajna, the royal Vedic sacrifice. To seek...

Compare this work to the works by idiots like White -- unlike White's speculartion, this is actual research involving field-work, knowledge of history and analytical thinking. Mr Deekshitar, great work!

"What is the relationship between the sphinxes of India and ancient Egypt? How and why did the sphinx achieve such an important place in Indian myth and ritual? Why was the verse from the Yajurveda chosen for the worship with the purushamriga lamp? And are the sphinxes found in other parts of India identical with the purushamriga of Tamil Nadu?"

Very good questions. Here are a couple of others. This past January I went to India and noticed quite a few "Stars of Davids". I asked around and found out it has to do with Astrology and Ganesha, but is not known as the "Star of David". If not, than why is the Star of David considered a Jewish symbol?

When we interviewd Subhash Kak I asked him about the correlations between West Asian and Indian similarities (specifically in regards to Religious terms/names like Adam/Adma, Eve/Jeeva, tree of knowledge/bodhi tree etc.). His answer was something to the effect that they are probably just coincidences (not surprising cause thats what most people answer). I am not satisfied with this answer. I suspect there is a lot more to it, and the Sphinx anomaly is just another example. There is a big piece of History missing, in my opinion, Raja Deekshitar, I applaud your effort to help us find it. :)
